How Can I Make The Water In My Pool Crystal Clear?

Many people have seen pictures of pools online and wonder why their pool does not look the same way. For those who dream about having a pool that is crystal clear, there is a way to make this happen. This simply requires a little bit of knowledge, planning, and effort. How can people make sure that their pool water is crystal clear?

Sanitation Must Come First
In order for the water in a pool to look crystal clear, it has to be sanitary. If there are moss, mold, algae, or bacteria growing in the pool, it is never going to look clean. Whether a pool is being sanitized with traditional chlorine, salt water, or is even hydrogenated, sanitizing is essential for keeping the pool water safe, healthy, and clear. By killing microorganisms in the water, unwanted contaminants will be removed. This will immediately clarify the water.

Target The Property Alkalinity Level
Next, it is time to take a look at the alkalinity level of the pool water. This is a measure of the water’s resistance to changes in its pH. In essence, it is a buffer, for those who remember high school chemistry. Ideally, the total alkalinity level should be between 100 and 120 ppm. If the total alkalinity level is outside this range, it will be difficult to keep the water as clear as possible.

Get The pH Of The Pool Right
Finally, the pH of the pool has to be correct as well. The pH of the pool should be somewhere between 7.4 and 7.6. If the pH level is too low, this can irritate people’s skin when they swim in the water. If the pH level is too high, nasty rings will develop around the line of the pool, impacting its clarity. To raise the pH level, sodium carbonate is needed. To lower the pH level, sodium bisulfate is needed.

Keep The Pool Water As Clear As Possible
To keep the pool looking as clear as possible, it is important to keep it sanitary, resistant to change, and within the proper pH level. Make sure to scrub the bottom of the pool as well, as this can impact how clear the water looks. Then, get ready to enjoy it!
